I used to daisy-chain several single-row powerstrips for all my electronic toys - and by the time I had used up all the outlets on powerstrip #3, I decided I needed to find another solution. I was also getting frequent power outages in my neighborhood (problem was with the utility company substation) and wanted a reliable surge protector. I bought two of these APC surge protectors (one near my TV/stereo setup and one for my computer desk) and have since retired my old string of powerstrips!
Like others have mentioned, the build is sturdy and the layout is very useful especially for accommodating the brick-like transformer plugs. I have way too many gadgets but this surge protector design (and my usb hub) helps me deal with all that.

There is not much i can say about the protection.. but what i can say is the plugs are planned out nicely!
Also i would like to add that i just got 2 new subwoofers and i notice this buzzing hum sound coming from my subs.. I tried everything to just using one sub, using spare cables, using different outlets, disconnecting some components.. so i finally googled about this problem and it turned out to be my comcast coax cable. So i was about to buy these cable isolators or just pay comcast to fix this problem.. but before i called comcast i plugged in the coax cable into the APC surge protector then turned on my receiver on and automatically noticed the buzzing hum sound was gone and no change to my video/internet signal! Thanks APC!

I live in the lightning capital of the nation (Tampa Bay) and have never experienced a problem with this unit. In general, APC has been a brand which I have relied upon in the past and have always been pleased with.
In regards to this product, APC has met my high expectations by delivering a reasonably priced product that is well constructed and thoughtfully laid out. I very much appreciate the spacing of the plugs on this unit as well as the rotating power cord joint which doesn't feel flimsy despite allowing considerable flexibility.
My only wish (and not one which should detract from the review in any way) is that the unit was available in white and/or neutral colors as well as the black.

Nice to see APC make a good comprehensive surge protection device. They're
better known for their UPS systems, how they got started in the business.
Ample layout for plugging in cords and power adapters. Has second telco
RJ11C jack for fax machine and modem at the same time.
Having the RJ45 network protection is a good plus. Insert it between the
cable or DSL modem, and your router, in case their power supply overvolts
on you, then your router is protected along with everything else upstream.
Reasonable amount of brute force protection at a reasonable price. Their
warranty is significant too. Will buy more as needed.

I bought 2 of these. I have them hooked up to the computer system in my house. I liked this one because of the numbers, Joules, Volts, Etc., for the protection it offers, the fact that it does the cable connection, the lan connection and the phone connection.
The layout of the outlets is very good and allows space for the large transformers that a lot of the equipment uses to convert the power to DC current. Last but not least it is very inexpensive for the level of protection it offers. It checks all 3 wires of the power line coming into it. Most of the ones priced this low only check one of the 3 wires.
