Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of Adesso WKB-3000UB Wireless Mini KeyboardCustomer Review: It works, but can be frustrating Summary: 3 Stars
I recently gave up my desk for space and have plugged in our computer to the TV. Since I don't have a desk anymore, I can't really sit somewhere with a full keyboard and mouse, so I needed to find a remote keyboard and mouse combo. This appeared to be the perfect fit, and for the most part, it is.
The overall feel of the keyboard is pretty nice. The keys do feel a little soft, so you're never really sure if you hit a key hard enough. You will likely have to hit the keys a little harder then normal. The trackball mouse is not very fluid and doesn't provide very good feedback. Almost sounds like it's grinding against the plastic.
The features of the keyboard are really great. With all the shortcut keys on the top, dual placement of some mouse buttons, and the hidden scroll wheel for the left hand. That being said, it isn't suited for folks that have made the left hand their primary mouse hand.
The unit is light and comfortable in your lap. I wish it had more grippy material underneath, which would further stabilize it.
The accuracy of the RF is decent, but not that great. It's best when there's a line of site between the unit and the RF receiver. Signal quality appeared heavily diminished when there are objects in the way. It also seems to lose it's connection quite often, and the only way to get it back is to tap a key on the keyboard. This can be annoying if you hit a key that does something. I like to use the [ctrl] key to wake it up. Moving the mouse will do nothing!
Ok, here are the pros/cons
Pros
=======
- Fits the need to have a remote keyboard and mouse combo. Great for home theater use or any other use where you need extended distance between the PC and keyboard.
- Nice use of shortcut keys and mouse buttons. (lefty's beware)
- Battery life seems to be pretty good. Although the batteries that come with it are horrible
- Nice battery warning light
Cons
=======
- Keyboard keys are soft with minimal to no feedback. The pressure needed to press a key is inconsistent throughout the keyboard. Often misfiring requiring harder hits
- RF signal quality is iffy. Line of site is ideal while objects will lessen signal quality. As will battery life
- Loses signal, which requires a tap of the keyboard to reconnect. Moving mouse does nothing! NOTHING!!! arghh....
- Pray that you don't have to team up the keyboard and the RF receiver. This can be a hair pulling moment, forcing you to throw the keyboard across the room. Don't do that or you'll have to buy a new one ;)
I would only recommend this for semi-regular use. Or if you just do a bunch of web browsing. I would not recommend this if you plan on using it regularly, like for work or programming. It will be too frustrating. However, I do like it for what I'm using it for and overall I'm please with the purchase.
