Digital Cameras Photo Reviews of 3M Ergonomic Mouse, Optical, USB/PS2 Compatible, Small Size, Black (EM500GPS)Customer Review: 3M Ergo Mouse - A Great Choice Summary: 5 Stars
I used the previous generation of this mouse for three years, and loved it. This newer model is exactly the same but with an updated black color and adapter so it can be used in either a USB or I/O port. This is a great alternative for anyone who has wrist or hand discomfort when using a traditional mouse. Other ergo mice have not worked for me...the 'big red ball' style, etc. I need something that takes all of the pressure off of my wrist on the palm-side. This is literally the only product I have ever found that is designed for that. I highly recommend both the effectiveness and reliability of this product.
Customer Review: Good Enough Summary: 4 Stars
I've been using this mouse a couple weeks now and the old wrist pain is gone. I'm glad I bought this mouse, but I want to point out three negatives: 1) there is no scroll wheel (a major annoyance), 2) the optical resolution could be better (tiny motions can be difficult), and 3) once in a while I have to slap the device against the desk to get it to show a cursor on the screen. That last one could be a conflict with the 3 other USB pointing devices I'm using simultaneously, though.
I make up for the lack of a scroll wheel by keeping my old mouse (with its scroll wheel) under my left hand.
Customer Review: Four years, three systems, one happy wrist Summary: 4 Stars
I've used this mouse off and on for about four years, on Windows XP, Mac OS X, and Ubuntu Linux (various versions). If any software came with it I threw it out - it's a USB mouse, after all.
The difference in wrist and forearm comfort is significant. I'll occasionally switch to a traditional mouse for greater control when doing design work, but otherwise it suffices. I miss having a scroll wheel, and the secondary button (on the grip itself) is a bit sensitive, sometimes issuing a double click, but the minor gripe is worth it. I've experienced no thumb pain as at least one reviewer noted.
Customer Review: Never so happy... Summary: 5 Stars
This is my second purchase of this mouse. After having carpal-tunnel surgery on my right hand this mouse was suggested to me and boy am I glad my employer was willing to let me give it a try. The computer program that I use requires constant use of the mouse and if I have to use someone elses system and a regular mouse by the end of the day my hand and wrist ache. My employer got mine installed right after I had the surgery on my hand and I have full use and strength in that hand unlike a co-worker who came back and went straight back to a regular mouse. I highly recommend this product.
Customer Review: Beware of worsening problems Summary: 1 Stars
I run the IT department in a small office (around 30 users). Four of the users who had turned to this mouse to deal with carpal tunnel issues initially found it quite comfortable. However, that changed over time with each one complaining of pain from the thumb to the wrist.
The problem, as far as I can tell, is that this mouse requires too much extension of the thumb -- far more than one would expect in a normal mouse. I'd suggest staying clear of it and replacing any that you may have purchased with an alternative that does not require as much thumb movement.
